“You’re all geniuses, and you’re all beautiful. You don’t need anyone to tell you who you are. You are what you are. Get out there and get peace, think peace, and live peace and breathe peace, and you’ll get it as soon as you like.” – John Lennon

john-lennon-peaceMonday’s New Moon in Libra (5:06pm Pacific) calls forth the beautiful genius, revolutionary artist, visionary activist and radical peacemaker in all of us. The chart of the New Moon reverberates with the chart of my all-time favorite Libra John Lennon, who would have turned 75 today.

Not only is the New Moon (at 19 Libra) just a few degrees from Lennon’s natal Sun (16 Libra), Venus – ruler of Libra and presiding deity of this New Moon – will be at 3 degrees Virgo, the exact degree of Lennon’s Venus. And, just as Lennon was majoring in the Aries-Libra polarity (with his Ascendant and South Node in Aries), this tension of opposites is also activated by the New Moon, which closely opposes Uranus in Aries.

While the Libra New Moon calls for a new beginning in peace, love and harmony, its opposition to revolutionary Uranus says that the way forward involves disrupting the status quo, breaking free from old programming and patterns, asserting your individuality, and taking risks. This New Moon asks us to LIVE peace, CREATE beauty and BE love – revolutionary acts that disrupt the suicidal momentum of this violent, anesthetic (opposite of aesthetic) culture.

libra new moonUranus is the Great Awakener, and this New Moon wakes us up to where we’ve suppressed our authenticity, vitality and passion in order to be “nice” or please others – the ways we “keep the peace” at the expense of creating TRUE peace, a much more risky venture. At the opposite extreme, we may also see how we’ve been overly selfish or self-involved, where we’ve neglected to really listen to and take into account another’s needs and desires.

Just in time for the New Moon, Mercury turned direct (forward) this morning (woot!) ending its 3-week Retrograde. It will take a few days for Mercury to get up to speed, and we won’t be fully out of the “shadow” until October 24, but we can expect more ease, flow,  forward momentum and CLARITY.

Mercury Retrograde in Libra has invited us to reflect, rethink, redo and release in the Venusian realms of love, relationship, art, pleasure, collaboration, receptivity and projection. Often, when we’re in the Retrograde, there can be a feeling of being submerged, of some deep inner process unfolding beyond the reach of the rational mind. Today, as Mercury stations, we’re advised to take some time in stillness and silence to allow insights to rise up from the depths into the conscious mind.

While Mercury is in Venus’ sign, Venus is in Mercury’s sign – Virgo – and just yesterday emerged from her post-Retrograde shadow. This means that the Venus Retro influence, which started on June 21 with the pre-Retro shadow, has now come to completion. What has changed for you in relationship-land over the past three months? What has internally shifted in your self-love, self-worth, self-care and your capacity for pleasure, receptivity and eroticism?

This combined action of Mercury direct and the end of Venus Retro suggests that, as of the Libra New Moon, it’s all systems go in Venus-land. Coming out of this period of deep reflection and healing, what are you ready to create? How does your radical, genius, visionary self want to show up NOW?

To get more insight into what this New Moon means for YOU, find the house in your birth chart that contains 19 degrees Libra. The areas of life signified by that house are where the cosmos wants you to:  animate your beautiful genius and artist-activist; reestablish an equal exchange of give and take, receptivity and assertion; renew your spirit of cooperation; create more beauty and increase the flow of love; own your projections and heal within yourself what you see reflected back at you.

Word to the wise – the Moon will go void-of-course just after the New Moon, so the best time for working your New Moon magic (making wishes and setting intentions) is between Tuesday at 2:38pm Pacific and Wednesday at 5:58pm.

p.s. For revolutionary artist Libra New Moon inspiration, you’ll want to hear the recent interview with Patti Smith on Democracy Now. She’s got Neptune in Libra on her Midheaven: “Listen, I believe everythin’ we dream/Can come to pass through our union/We can turn the world around/We can turn the earth’s revolution

– Emily Trinkaus
