capricorn ful moon

The lunar cycle is building to its dramatic culmination – an emotionally volatile, high-pressure Full Moon on July 1 (7:20pm Pacific). The Full Moon conjoins Pluto, God/Goddess of the Underworld, opposes Mars the Warrior, and squares the Nodes of the Moon, forming a power-house Cardinal Cross. Are you feeling the freak-out?

The cycle started on June 16 with the Gemini New Moon (which I didn’t write about, I was on vacation!), a seed-planting of ideas, options and possible directions. Mercury, ruler of Gemini, had recently emerged from its Retrograde (May 18-June 11), but was still in its shadow (until June 27) – we were still in the process of gathering information and gaining clarity.

Gemini is an Air sign – the realm of the mind, in which it’s easy to see multiple perspectives and it’s possible to create absolutely anything. Capricorn is Earth – the material realm of manifestation, in which we’re subject to the laws and limits of time and space. This Full Moon asks: Out of all the options and possibilities, what’s your priority? How do you want to focus your time and energy? What are you really committed to?

saturnThe Full Moon’s conjunction with Pluto suggests there might be something you need to transform, restructure or completely let go of in order to honor your deepest, soul-level commitments. Reinforcing this theme, Saturn – Capricorn’s planetary ruler and the presiding deity of this Full Moon – recently retrograded back into Pluto-ruled Scorpio (on June 14), where it will remain until September 18. Saturn in Scorpio pulls you back into your inner depths, asking you to realign with your vitality and passion, and release the dead weight that’s blocking your aliveness and power.

The Cancer-Capricorn polarity specifically focuses attention on the balance and integration of your inner and outer lives. Do you feel nurtured and fulfilled by your work? Do you have the root system/home base you need to support you in pursuing your goals? Does the weight of the past – what you inherited from your family and ancestors, old emotional trauma, etc. – hold you back from going after what you really want? The Capricorn Full Moon makes clear what’s working, what’s not, and what’s ready to shift.

At the Full Moon, the Sun and Mars in Cancer oppose the Moon and Pluto in Capricorn, all squaring the Aries/Libra Nodal Axis (the Nodes of the Moon), forming a booty-kicking Cardinal Grand Cross. The Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) are the leaders, pioneers, innovators and catalysts of the zodiac, and all this Cardinal energy amps up the pressure to take decisive action. You will feel especially stirred up if in your birth chart you have planets in the range of 3-18 degrees of any of the Cardinal signs.

cancerThe Aries South Node warns not to make decisions or take action from a place of impatience, emotional reactivity or lizard brain “survival mode.” As the ruler of Aries, Mars in Cancer (precisely squaring the Nodes at the Full Moon) can trigger the neediness and insecurity of your inner child – not to mention some serious crankiness and crabbiness.

The Libra North Node says that the best way forward arises from a state of inner calm, peace and balance. If you’re feeling a big emotional charge, hit the pause button, feel the feelings, love up your inner child, and wait until you’ve chillaxed before making a decision or taking action. Libra is the sign of partnership and interdependence, and you might also consider how you could collaborate or ask for support in order to move forward with more EASE and PLEASURE.

If you have a copy of your birth chart and some astro-technical know-how, you can get more specific about what this Full Moon means for YOU. Find the house in your birth chart that contains 9 degrees Capricorn. The areas of life represented by that house are where you’re called to: make or break a commitment; come into greater integrity with your deepest passion and soul mission; radically restructure and reorganize; get strategic about reaching your goals; face your fears, especially around success and failure; and reclaim your authority.
