capricorn full moon

Holy emotional intensity! Feeling the pressure? Feeling the cranky? Not only is 2014 now officially full speed ahead, Saturday’s Full Moon also activates a grand finale Cardinal Grand Cross and a Moon Wobble.

Let’s start with the basics. The Full Moon (July 12, 4:25 am Pacific) is in Capricorn – the sign of commitment, responsibility, career and long-term goals. After several months of soul-searching to uncover your true desires, after weighing out all the options, now it’s time to commit, take charge, and get strategic. What’s your bottom-line priority? What’s your plan for getting from where you are to where you want to be? How can you step into more of your authority to create the results you desire?

The Capricorn Moon opposes both the Sun and Jupiter in Cancer, highlighting the Cancer-Capricorn polarity – the balance and integration of your inner and outer lives. Do you feel secure enough to go after what you want? Do you feel nurtured and fulfilled by your work? Does the weight of the past – the belief systems of your family or ancestors, old emotional trauma, etc. – hold you back from pursuing your goals? The Full Moon lights up these issues, bringing to awareness what wants to be healed, shifted, or let go of.

Mars, Ceres and Vesta all congregate on the Libra North Node, while recently-discovered Eris – the goddess of discord – sits on the Aries South Node, with Uranus nearby. The Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) are the leaders, pioneers, innovators and catalysts of the zodiac, and all this Cardinal energy can feel like a major kick in the booty.

The Cardinal Cross has been happening all year (especially strong in January and April), as Mars in Libra and Jupiter in Cancer have further activated and amplified the already intense Uranus-Pluto square. This Full Moon is like a last hurrah of the Cardinal energies – issues that were up for you in January and April may finally be ready for resolution. Mars is getting ready to move out of Libra at the end of the month (woot!) and Jupiter shifts out of Cancer next week, so the Cardinal intensity will soon be on the wane.

full moonAnd then there’s the Moon Wobble, which happens when the Sun squares the Nodal Axis (as it’s doing now) or conjoins one of the Nodes. I first learned of the MW phenomenon from Jan Spiller, astro-queen of all things lunar, who suggests that all the exaggerated emotional energy in the air can cloud your judgment when it comes to making decisions. Jan considers the Wobble in effect from July 9 to 22. And of course, at the Full Moon – the emotional peak of the month – these potentially destabilizing, hyper-sensitive, over-reactive energies are especially potent.

I think the Capricorn Full Moon does want us to make decisions – but! (big BUT!) the Aries South Node warns not to let the lizard-brain-adrenaline-junkie part of ourselves be in the driver’s seat. Just because it’s time to get a move on doesn’t mean we have to be reactive, impatient, or overly impulsive. Mars on the Libra North Node says the most appropriate action emerges from a state of inner equanimity.

If a direction you’re considering has a big emotional charge around it – like, your nervous system kicks into high gear and whatever you’re thinking about feels like an emergency (even though it clearly isn’t) – hit the pause button, deal with the feelings, and wait until you feel calm and peaceful before making a decision. As I was working on this post this morning, I received this helpful blog post from Nick Ortner about dealing with such stressful feelings. I immediately used his EFT “tapping solution” and it got me out of nervous-system-freak-out (thank goddess).

If you have a copy of your birth chart and some astro-technical know-how, you can get more specific about what this Full Moon means for YOU. Find the house in your birth chart that contains 20 degrees Capricorn. (Yes, everyone has Capricorn in their chart, and I wrote a post about how to find lunar events in your chart here.) The areas of life represented by that house are where you’re called to: make or break a commitment; get strategic about reaching your goals; face your fears, especially around success and failure; come into greater integrity; and reclaim your authority.
