cancerTonight’s New Moon (9:24pm PDT) is in watery, sensitive Cancer, the sign of home, family, security, nourishment and deep feelings. At the New Moon, the solar principle — consciousness, transcendence, spirit — unites with the lunar principle — the subconscious, immanence, the body — gifting you with an opportunity to re-anchor your higher path, your soul’s calling, into the here-and-now reality.

The Cancer New Moon calls attention to your foundation — your inner foundation of emotional security and safety, and your outer foundation, which includes the environment of your home and work space as well as your close relationships. This New Moon supports planting seeds and setting intentions for strengthening your foundation, increasing your feeling of nourishment, and deepening intimacy with loved ones.

Cancer’s opposite is Capricorn, the sign of career, long-term goals and worldly power. The Cancer New Moon asks, What kind of foundation do you need in order to achieve your goals? Is your feeling of inner safety and security strong enough to allow you to take the risk of stepping into your power in the world?

saturnThe New Moon forms a challenging square (90-degree angle) to Saturn — planet of responsibility and commitment. Saturn’s involvement with the New Moon puts on the pressure to clean up old emotional patterns and habits, take responsibility for our feelings (rather than projecting them onto the people around us), and take charge of our own self-care and security needs. Saturn can also serve as a motivating force to get to work on home-related projects that we may have been procrastinating.

Since Mercury is Retrograde (see Reawakening Desire), this New Moon energy is best used to complete or re-do something rather than initiating a new venture. To get more insight into what this New Moon means for YOU, find the house in your birth chart that contains 26 degrees Cancer. The areas of life signified by that house are where you are invited to:  strengthen your base of support; increase your sense of security; replenish your feeling of nourishment; re-set your emotional compass; and re-commit to priorities. Trust your feelings and intuition to guide you rather than relying on your rational mind.

Word to the wise — the volatile Martian energy that I mentioned in my previous post continues for the next few days. If you’re driving (or even riding your bike), it’s a good idea to shift from the mode of pushing to get where you’re going as quickly as possible, to taking your time to get to your destination safely.
